Support the diaper bank during Give for Good 2022

Give for Good is an annual online community-wide giving event in Northwest Louisiana. 

Your donation of $10 or $10,000 will make a HUGE difference for your neighbors who are served by local nonprofits like Basic Necessities. 

When the diaper bank opened in June 2020, we didn’t fully comprehend the scope of diaper need & period poverty in our community. 

Since then, the diaper bank has distributed the following basic sanitary supplies to over a thousand local families, public schools, universities, and community service partners:

· 155,916 baby diapers,

· 75,120 menstrual products, and

· 32,094 incontinence supplies.

Basic Necessities has experienced a 400% increase in clients in need since we opened our doors.

Historically high poverty rates & comparatively low wages make the ArkLaTex particularly vulnerable to diaper need & period poverty.

Public assistance programs like WIC, SNAP, and Medicare do not cover the cost of these basic sanitary supplies, and Medicaid covers them only when a doctor prescribes them as part of a medical treatment plan. 

When families receive these free sanitary supplies, they can use their financial resources to cover food and housing expenses while maintaining their health and dignity. Babies stay clean, dry and healthy, and parents are able to go to work when they have an adequate supply of diapers for their children.

Free pads & tampons alleviate period poverty among public school & college students, keeping them in classes they would have otherwise missed due to an inability to afford basic menstrual supplies.
